ROCKVILLE — The season opener at Roy Lester Stadium between the Richard Montgomery Rockets and the visiting Churchill Bulldogs ended prematurely as a lightning delay halted the game with 52.6 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Officials eventually decided to postpone the contest.
Richard Montgomery senior quarterback Michael Braswell connected with wide receiver Todd Thoman from six yards out and Jonathan Harwood added the extra point to put the Rockets up 7-0 with 4:26 remaining in the first quarter.
However, Churchill responded in the second quarter when senior quarterback Michael Janis led the Bulldogs downfield and connected with Max Mantz from 23 yards out for the touchdown. Rocco Tranquill booted the extra point to tie the game at 7-7 with 58.4 seconds remaining.
Although not confirmed, the game could be played on Saturday at Wootton. The field at Richard Montgomery is unavailable due to another sporting event.
