Local teams took first and second for the girls and boys sprint medley relays, respectively.
Watkins Mill High School won the girls sprint medley relay with a time of 2:24 minutes.
Clarksburg High School’s (2:26.73 minutes) fourth leg passed Walter Johnson’s (2:27 flat) fourth leg in the final 25 meters of the girls race, beating the Wildcats by less than three-tenths of a second.
Suitland High School took first place in the boys sprint medley relay with a time of 2:03.85 minutes. Similar to the girls relay, a County team competed with another team for second place and the finish times of second and third place were separated by a fraction of a second: six-hundredths of a second, to be precise. The Seneca Valley Boys team finished second (2:05.31 minutes) followed by Randallstown High (2:05.37 minutes). Montgomery Blair placed fourth (2:06.76 minutes) and Sherwood (2:06.79) followed, three-hundredths of a second later in fifth place.
Four county teams placed in the top six for the girls 4x100m relay. The Lady Wolverines represented Watkins Mill once more by winning the race (50 seconds). Dajia Harper, Rhoda Miller, Jada Sobratti and Nana Tutu formed the girls 4x100m relay team. Walter Johnson (52 seconds) finished second, John F. Kennedy (55.56 seconds) finished fifth and Winston Churchill (55.63 seconds) finished sixth.
Four county boys earned points for their teams by placing in the top eight in the boys shot put. Anne Arundel County thrower Brent Boyer, Northeast High, won the event by nearly five feet, throwing 51 feet, 7 inches.Walter Johnson’s Andrew Birgin placed second by throwing the shot 46 feet, 9 inches. Seneca Valley’s Olawola Layeni (40 feet, 10 inches), Damascus’ Robert McFarland (36 feet, 7 inches) and Wolverine Connor George (36 feet, 4.25 inches) placed fourth, sixth and eighth.
