A Rockville city police officer was released from the hospital with minor injuries after an automobile accident in his cruiser Saturday night.
Duglan Renan Claros Cruz, 22, was charged with driving under the influence after he hit Rockville City Police Officer Seth Creel, who was traveling southbound near the 1000 block of Rockville Pike. Police say Claros Cruz’s while driving his 1997 Honda struck Creel’s cruiser as he was attempting to make a left turn.
Creel did not sustain any significant injuries, but was transported to a nearby hospital for a “checkup,” according to Brian Paul, a lieutenant with the Rockville City Police Department.
Police said Claros Cruz had a .16 blood alcohol content after the crash. Claros Cruz was also charged with driving without a license, reckless driving and holding a learner’s permit while driving without supervision.
After he was hit, Creel was trapped inside his car, and it took 20 minutes for Fire and Rescue personnel to free him, according to Paul.
