3,578 soccer fans were in attendance this past Saturday evening at Maureen Hendricks Field in Boyds, Maryland as the Washington Spirit opened the 2016 season with a win over the Boston Breakers, 1-0.
With the opening kick, the Washington Spirit had the advantage and kept it for the rest of the game. Within three minutes, the ball was under the control of forward Crystal Dunn, who crossed it towards midfielder Joanna Lohman. Lohman took a bicycle kick to the ball, shooting it past Breakers keeper Libby Stout into the net, scoring The Spirit’s first and only winning point against Boston.
The Washington Spirit’s next home game will be May 7th against the Portland Thorns at 7:00 p.m.
