ELLICOTT CITY — Friday marked the end of the road for the Sherwood varsity football team as the Warriors lost to host Howard 34-14 in the state quarterfinals.
Howard quarterback Casey Crawford came out firing from the get-go, leading off with a 66-yard touchdown to senior wide receiver Cameron Carlyle, the first of Crawford’s four TD passes on the day.
Sherwood quarterback Shawn Bliss responded with the first of his two touchdown passes, hitting Christian Willis for the score. The Warriors gained their only lead of the game on the ensuring PAT, giving up three touchdowns afterward to Howard’s Malik Anderson in the second quarter.
Bliss connected with Travis Levy before halftime for his other touchdown but the Warriors fell flat in the second half while Carlyle caught his second touchdown in the fourth quarter for the margin maker.
