The suspect in the on-air fatal shooting of two Roanoke, Virginia, journalists has shot himself and is in critical condition, according to NBC News.
Vester Lee Flanagan Jr., who reported as Bryce Williams for ABC WDBJ7 before being fired two years ago, allegedly shot reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, on Wednesday and posted a video of the incident to social media.
A third victim, interview subject Vicki Gardner, was reportedly in surgery.
The alleged gunman appeared to be live-tweeting the events before an account appearing to belong to him was suspended. The account said Parker had made racist remarks and Ward had filed a complaint against him with human resources.
WDBJ7 contacted authorities after receiving a 23-page fax from Flanagan on Tuesday, the station said.
Chris Hurst, a journalist for WBDJ, said he and Parker were in love. Hurst said on Facebook that they had just moved in together and that they wanted to get married.
NBC News reported that Flanagan sued a Tallahassee, Florida, station over alleged racial discrimination after being fired in 2000.
