Blake High School has found a new boys basketball coach for the 2015-16 campaign.
Former Montrose Christian assistant Dondrell Whitmore has been named the new head coach at the Silver Spring public school.
Whitmore replaces Marcus Wiggins who stepped down after a nine-year stint at Blake.
The Western Carolina University graduate was also once the head coach at Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring.
Whitmore, a North Carolina native, compiled a 110-64 record during a seven-year stint at Sherwood where he guided the Warriors to the Maryland 4A state title in 2007.
Meanwhile, Watkins Mill High School has hired a pair of local products to take over the boys and girls basketball programs.
Former Springbrook standout Chris McGuthrie has been named the new boys head coach at Watkins Mill.
McGuthrie replaces Jay Tringone who stepped down after a nine-year stint at the Montgomery Village public school.
“Coach McGuthrie brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Watkins Mill Basketball program and will be a valuable asset to the students in the Watkins Mill community,” said Watkins Mill Athletic Director Reggie Spears. “I am extremely excited to have Coach McGuthrie on board and I look forward to seeing his hard work and leadership bring years of success for Watkins Mill Basketball.”
Germantown native Donita Adams will take over the girls basketball program at Watkins Mill. She replaces longtime head coach Ivan Hicks who stepped down to spend more time with his family.
Adams began her high school career at Watkins Mill but graduated from Damascus in 2006.
“I’m honored to be named Watkins Mill High School’s girls’ head basketball coach,” said Adams. “It feels good to be back home where it all began.”
