A 14-year-old Wheaton girl has died after drowning at her apartment swimming pool Sunday afternoon.
Shortly before 3 p.m. the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service was called to the Oakfield Apartment complex in the 2200 block of Georgian Woods Place in Glenmont for a reported drowning.
Upon arrival paramedics found a pool lifeguard attempting life-saving measures on an unresponsive 14-year-old. According to MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer, MCFRS personnel assumed care of the girl and transported her to Holy Cross Hospital where she was later declared deceased.
Police believe the girl slipped from the shallow end to the deep end of the pool, went under and was not able to come back up. Lifeguards found her in five feet of water when she was removed.
Police are treating the case as an apparent drowning but a final cause of death is yet to be determined by the medical examiner.
Update: Investigators have identified the girl as Abrama Grace Tamo of the 2000 block of Georgian Woods Place.
