WASHINGTON,D.C. – Daniel Milzman, a 2012 Whitman graduate and Bethesda native, was ordered to remain in federal custody after a May 1 hearing related to charges he created ricin in his Georgetown University dorm room.
Magistrate Judge Alan Kay honored Milzman’s lawyer, Danny Onorato, request to reconvene at a later date. Onorato told the court he wanted to wait until the later in the investigation.
Georgetown University Police arrested Milzman on March 18 after he told his resident assistant he made ricin in his dorm room. Georgetown Fire Department found 123mg of the deadly chemical in his dorm room.
Federal prosecutors said Milzman intended to use the ricin to poison a friend he had a falling out with a friend. Onorato said Milzman intended to use the ricin to slowly poison himself.
Federal prosecutors formally charged Milzman will possession of a biological toxin and he has been in federal custody since March 21.
Milzman is due back in court on June 2 for a status hearing.
