ROCKVILLE – A fire has destroyed a family home on the 100 block of Monument Street and left its occupants displaced.
Pete Piringer of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue said the two-alarm fire started around 3:30 p.m. on the roof and the living room of the home. It took 25 fire trucks and 75 fire fighters 25 minutes to extinguish the blaze. No one was home at the time and there are no reported injuries. Piringer said the home is a total loss.
Neighbor Laure Quesnel offered the family a place to stay for a couple days.
“When I saw the fire it looked like an illustration out of a children’s book. I feel really sorry that this had to happen to the family. I’m glad firefighters were able to get it out really fast,” Quesnel said.
Quesnel said last year the home had a problem with the heating system and the family had to stay in a hotel for a week.
“I can’t imagine if I lost everything,” Quesnel said.
MCFRS has not determined the origin of the fire. Great Falls Road is currently closed between Maryland Avenue and West Montgomery Street.
